Amazing Young People

Tuesday, November 8th, 2005

The work I do has many blessings. One is the young people I get to meet.
It is easy to dismiss the dreams and hopes of high school students as
“youthful enthusiasm”. I know I have had more than one overly noble goal pass through my mind and my lips. When you have few experiences it is much easier to feel like you know a lot about the world and your place. As time passes there seems to be more and more gray in the world.
Even with that being said, there are young people (I sound so old when I use that term) who truly do get it. Who understand the world, their place, and how we can make it better.
There is a young lady by the name of Lisa, who we met last year in IA. She is a rock star. She has already been the Calcutta to serve the poor. Raised the money to get there and planned the trip her self. Last I heard from her, she was planning a trip for her youth group to India and was studying to be a teach to help LD kids. (She, like me, is one as well.)
Then there is Grace and Leah. They are sister from SD. Together they raised $100,000 for Habitat for Humanity in one year. There story can be found at The Lady Bug Ladies.
There are countless others out there just like these young women.
It humbles me to call them friends. It challenges me to do more. It give me hope for our present.

Guayasamin

Guayasamin is considered the Picasso of the Americas. I had the chance to go to his home (which is now a museum) in Quito, Ecuador a few year ago. His painting of hands and faces brought me to tears because of their beauty. Each painting about 7 feet tall.
Images of the “Hands” can be found at the Guayasamin Foundations web site.
